The Orthodox Christians in South Ossetia are celebrating one of the main Christian holidays - the Resurrection of Christ - Easter. The believers gathered in two churches in the capital: the Church of the Holy Trinity and the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The clergy held festive divine services, Easter cakes and eggs have been consecrated. .

The orthodox made cross processions around the churches, shouting “Christ is risen! Chyrysti raygas! -He is truly risen! .Bælvyrd raygas!

The leadership of the Republic, led by President Alan Gagloev, also took part in the services. The head of state congratulated the believers on the holiday.

“Today the Orthodox are celebrating a big holiday - the Holy Resurrection of Christ, and I congratulate all believers on the holiday. A huge number of people gathered in both churches in Tskhinval. The believers were not afraid of the bad weather, they came to participate in the services and pray to God. May the Lord God hear the prayers of everyone who is here today. And may prayers protect our guys who are in the zone of the special military operation, and may the Lord God bless them so that they all return home in health soon,” the head of state said.

Easter (Kuadzaen) is one of the most beloved holidays by Ossetians. The term Kuazaen is a transformed “komua-zaen” (the end of fasting). They prepare for Easter in advance: they brew beer, meat, and prepare pies. Eggs take pride of place on the table: they are boiled and painted in different colors. Neighbors and relatives give them to each other.
