A veteran of the Great Patriotic War of South Ossetia Valiev Fedor Sakoevich was given congratulations from President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the 79th anniversary of the Great Victory, the Russian Embassy in South Ossetia told IA “Res”.

“You, veterans, defeated a cruel enemy, defended the freedom and independence of the Motherland, and crushed Nazism. We bow to the greatness of the feat of your generation and will always strive to be worthy of you, in times of trial - to firmly follow your behests. To serve the Fatherland faithfully and truly,” the head of the Russian state noted in his congratulations.

Valiev Fedor Sakoevich is 93 years old, when the Great Patriotic War began; he was only 11 years old. Many adult men from his family were drafted to the front or went to fight as volunteers. The women and children who remained in the rear replaced the men in the fields and at the machines. Despite his young age, Valiev was working on the collective farm along with adults and made his contribution to helping the front. And he dreamed of growing up quickly so he could go to war.

“I kept worrying that the Nazis would be defeated without me,” the veteran has recalled.

But Valiev still could not get to the front due to his youth; his front was on the collective farm fields and mountain pastures.

A representative of the Russian Embassy in South Ossetia noted that the congratulations were presented to the veteran on the day President Vladimir Putin took office. He also expressed the wish that Valiev would meet the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, which will be celebrated next year, in good health.

The veteran was also presented with gifts on behalf of the Russian Embassy in South Ossetia.
